About this printable checkerboard
This checkers board printable from PrintablePaper.net (Savetz Publishing) is exactly what it says: one Letter page with a coloured 8x8 checkerboard and nothing else. It is the fastest way to replace a lost board, set up a quick game on holiday, or hand a class of children a board each.
The same 64 squares serve two classic games. Checkers (draughts outside North America) is played on the dark squares with twelve pieces per side; see our checkers rules page for moves, jumps, kings and the most common house rules. The board also works for chess with your own pieces; our chess rules page explains every piece, check and checkmate, and PrintablePaper’s separate chess board with cut-out pieces is the better pick if you own none.
How to use it
- Print on card stock if you can; plain paper works for a one-off game.
- For checkers, place twelve pieces per side on the dark squares of the three rows nearest each player. Coins, buttons or bottle caps make fine pieces.
- For chess, add any set of pieces; the board has no coordinates, so set the queens on their own colour.
